Joseph Mwenda alias DJ Joe Mfalme was on Monday, April 8, 2024, released from remand after he was arrested alongside five others in connection with the murder of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Felix Kelian.

In a court ruling on Monday, DJ Joe Mfalme along with five co-accused, including three police officers will become state witnesses in the murder trial.

The other person are; Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich and Agnes Kerubo Mogire.

The six remained in remand as officers handling the case conducted investigations into the death of their slain colleague.

On Friday, April 5, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in a letter directed that Allan Ochieng who was among those arrested, be charged with the murder of Kelian.

The six are accused of assaulting Kelian on March 16.

Kelian is said to have hit Joe Mfalme's car from the rear as he headed home from an event in Kikuyu. An altercation ensued and before police officers could arrive, the six are said to have assaulted the DCI officer.

The officers upon arrival arrested Kelian along with Mfalme and his team, before later releasing the DJ and his colleagues without taking a statement.

Kelian would later complain of abdominal pains and was rushed to Langata Hospital before he was transferred to Nairobi West Hospital where he succumbed to injuries on March 21.

The officer is said to have sustained injuries to the urinal bladder and was unable to pass urine for four hours. Blunt abdominal trauma was listed as the cause of the officer's death.
