Former K24 News Anchor and renowned media personality Betty Kyalo's beauty salon 'Flair by Betty' has been put up for auction by her landlord over existing rent arrears.

In a notice sent out by Keysian Auctioneers on Monday, April 8, 2024, the process will begin at 11:00am on Wednesday, April 17.

Speaking to a local tabloid, Betty highlighted the harsh economic times in the country and the reluctance of landlords to lower rents as reason for the collapse of her business.

"Obviously running a business in Kenya has become so difficult," she said.

"Landlords don't want to reduce rent and it becomes a huge burden on businesses that are struggling because of the economic slowdown. I let it go."

Betty launched 'Flair by Betty' in 2020 in a lavish event attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's wife, Ida Odinga. At the time, she promised to grow the business into a leader in the provision of quality hair, hair cuts, manicure and pedicure, among other beauty products and services.

However, the tough economic times may have drawn the curtains on the establishment's run in the market.

According to Keysian Auctioneers, over 20 items are up for sale, with interested parties urged to avail themselves at the company's officers in Nairobi on the day of the auction. Those interested in viewing the items before purchasing them are adviced to visit the shop but with prior confirmation.

The items put up for auction include; 3 pieces of dismantled wall shelves, a massage bed stand, chandelier, a small serve rack, a white shelf with a cabinet stand, a glass shelf, seats attached with sinks, a blue cushioned stool, a Relmon shower, Hiluck video recorder, 9 CCTV cameras, assorted towels, a Huawei rooter, a top massage stone heater, a Nunix water dispenser, a small foot massage, a Mac coffee maker, a small wooden stool, and two tables (one broken) and a round mirror.

New Location

Betty has since announced that she is set to launch a barber shop in Upper Hill Nairobi today, April 8.

I am happier. I sleep better. My peace of mind is more important than a name. I'm good," Betty revealed.

"Also after two months of expansion, we reopen Aftershave by Flair, Upper Hill, La Baita. Gentlemen come through. I will be there today."
